Lexington, KY, USA – September 7, 2024 – The American Association of Equine Therapists and
Technicians (AAETT) is proud to announce that it has officially been granted
non-profit status by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This significant milestone
marks a new chapter in our commitment to advancing the field of equine therapy,
supporting our members, and promoting the highest standards of care within the
equestrian industry.
Obtaining non-profit status is a monumental step for AAETT and the equestrian
community at large. As a non-profit organization, AAETT is now positioned to better
serve its members and the industry through enhanced educational programs,
research initiatives, and advocacy efforts. This status will allow us to secure funding
and resources to develop and promote comprehensive educational partnerships,
establish industry standards, and continue building a collaborative community of
equine therapists and technicians.
Not all professional organizations are non-profits, including some of those
supporting the equine industry. It is critical to understand some key differences
between for-profit and non-profit entities, and how non-profits support their
stakeholders and the industry as a whole.
For our members, non-profit status means increased opportunities for professional
growth, access to new resources, and a stronger voice in shaping the future of
equine therapy. AAETT is now equipped to facilitate more educational workshops,
offer independent proctored exams for National Board Certifications, and create
additional networking events designed to elevate the skills and knowledge of equine
therapists and technicians. Our commitment to advancing the field will enable our
members to provide the highest level of care to the equine community.
For our donors, all donations are tax-deductible, retroactive to January 4, 2024. For
those who have already donated, THANK YOU and look for your tax deduction
letters after January 1, 2025. As an all-volunteer organization, all contributions
apply 100% to supporting the equine industry through AAETT's mission. As a
recognized non-profit, our volunteers and Board of Directors are legally obligated to
prioritize the AAETT mission and financial security. This of course impacts our
members and stakeholders, but AAETT’s non-profit status extends even beyond
the equine supportive care industry.
This status signifies our dedication to advocating for the welfare of horses and the
professionalism of equine therapy, helping to ensure consumer protection in the
process. This achievement enables us to collaborate more effectively with
veterinarians, trainers, farriers, and other equine care providers. By fostering a
culture of education, collaboration, and ethical practice, AAETT aims to enhance
the well-being of horses and promote best practices across the equine industry.
