Supported Modalities
Embracing the New & Changing Environment of Equine Therapeutics
as New Modalities are Developed

Application of manual pressure to acupoints along meridian lines as described in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM)

Any hands-on technique intended to normalize soft tissue tone, elasticity, and / or range of motion

The use of distilled oils either for topical or olfactory application

Any electrical stimulation device, of any strength, with or without biofeedback

The application of kinesiotape to the skin that facilitates proprioceptive input and assists lymphatic drainage of tissue. OR Applying kinesiotape to the body to increase circulation, decompress tissue, provide support, improve lymphatic drainage, or any other purpose.

Any technology that uses light waves (visible or not) to stimulate a physiological response

Patches that use specifically designed 3D printed crystalline structures to reflect the body's own infrared radiation back into the tissue in order to promote local and systemic effects. Can be used on acupuncture points to initiate a response similar to acupuncture or acupressure.

Any device generating a pulsing electromagnetic field, of any intensity, whether it only uses PEMF or incorporates other modalities as well.

The application of heat or cold via any means, from simple hot compresses or ice, to high-tech methodologies

A process using a thermal camera that creates images of the long infrared wavelength by capturing infrared radation emitted from an object. OR Using an infrared camera to measure the surface temperature of various areas of the horse's body to determine whether there are abnormal patterns indicative of increased blood flow to a damaged area

Any technology or technique that facilitates active movement, in a specific manner to create a change in fitness or condition

Adjustable or low-intensity therapeutic ultrasound devices, which use soundwaves to promote a healing response within tissues, this does NOT include shockwave for our purposes because it is restricted in most locations to application by licensed medical or veterinary professionals.

Plates or platforms which vibrate while the horse stands on them

Any modality utilizing water as the primary mechanism of action, whether for buoyancy, thermodynamic purposes, ion exchange, exercise/conditioning, or compression
